Eternal Cure

The Great Physician preserves my soul,
Restores my balance and keeps control,
Prepares my heart and consoles my mind
Against repressions of every kind.

While others search for consolation
Through self-administered sedation,
My confidence grows ever greater
As I rely on my Creator.

I don't presume to mend my fences
By calling on the weak defenses
Of man’s instructions and prescriptions
And remedies of all descriptions.

For men are helpless to discover,
To analyze and to uncover
The innermost of deepest feeling,
Their fellow creatures’ thoughts revealing.

But God alone can give assurance
To those distressed beyond endurance,
And renew a lonely, broken heart
That adversity has torn apart!
